'Star Wars Battlefront' Entering Closed Alpha Soon, Applications Accepted Until June 30

Developer Electronic Arts-DICE is not taking any chances before they release the new "Star Wars Battlefront" this coming November. The developer recently announced that they are conducting a closed alpha "to perform a number of technical tests" that will help them in their continuing development of the game. EA-DICE is not a stranger to problematic launches because what they experienced in launching their "Battlefield" series.

According to a report in Polygon, the Closed Alpha will only be available for PC users via EA's Origin service and will have limited slots. Applications to join the closed alpha are now accepted via the "Star Wars Battlefront" website. Email invitations were also said to have been sent out for the alpha, detailing the minimum system requirements for those who are interested in joining:

  • CPU: Quad Core CPU e.g. Intel Core i5-2300 @ 2.8 GHz or AMD Phenom II x4 955 @ 3.2 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz
  • RAM: 6 GB
  • OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8/8.1 (64-bit operating system required)
  • Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon HD 7970 with 2 GB of Video Memory

Applications will be accepted from now until 7:59 Eastern Time, Monday, June 29 or 1:59 European Summer Time, June 30. Those who will be given slots will be informed about the next steps via email once the sign-up deadline is up.

EA's email invitation also said, "The purpose of the Star Wars Battlefront Closed Alpha is to perform a number of technical tests that will help the team at DICE as they continue the development of the game." The email also emphasized that the alpha "does not represent final quality of the game." Likewise, any progress made during the alpha will not be transferable to the full game.

EA has however not indicated when the actual alpha will take place and how long it will take.
