'Star Wars Battlefront II' News: EA Might Announce Discounts as 'The Last Jedi' Premieres

For gamers, the approaching premiere of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" could likely mean a discount when purchasing the upcoming "Star Wars Battlefront II" game.

This month, fans of the massive "Star Wars" franchise will see the release of the "Star Wars Battlefront II" game. And in the recently held earnings call of Electronic Arts for the second quarter of fiscal year 2018, the company's executives tackled the hype around the entire franchise as "The Last Jedi" nears its premiere, while giving their take on possibly offering discounts for the game around that time.

During the earnings call, one of the questions the executives got was specifically about the "launch plan" for "Star Wars Battlefront II," and EA CEO Andrew Wilson noted that the company was hoping to "benefit" from the hype that "The Last Jedi" movie will accumulate.

"What you may have noticed is that Disney have just released the first major trailer for The Last Jedi. It had really, really strong and positive feedback. They are marketing this title on a more compressed timeline. And we're seeing the anticipation build for the movie in the same way we're seeing anticipation build for the game," Wilson said (via Seeking Alpha).

Meanwhile, EA's chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen added that they were "most likely" going to offer a discount on "Star Wars Battlefront II" close to the time of "The Last Jedi's" release. "And maybe you'll even see some selective discounts around the holidays, either Thanksgiving or Christmas," Jorgensen said.

EA's CFO further explained that issuing discounts during holidays has been "the way the games business always has worked."

With that, Jorgensen advised people not to look for other interpretations on why a title had been discounted for a certain period because, he maintained, it has been a business method practiced especially during the holidays.

"Star Wars Battlefront II" will be out on Friday, Nov. 17.
