'Star Wars Episode 8' Plot Rumors: Benicio Del Toro to Play Boba Fett's Descendant?
After the massive success of the seventh "Star Wars" movie, "The Force Awakens," expectations are high with the forthcoming release of Rian Johnson's "Star Wars: Episode 8 – The Last Jedi." Similar to the treatment of "The Force Awakens" before it was released, Disney and Lucasfilm has been tight-lipped in sharing new details about "The Last Jedi."
So far, among the few things known about the upcoming movie is that all of the surviving core cast are confirmed to return for the eighth "Star Wars" film. New cast members have also been previously announced, which includes Benicio Del Toro.
Although Del Toro is widely rumored to play a villain, the specifics of his role in the film have remained a secret. However, a new fan theory has suggested that the actor could be portraying the descendant of the ruthless bounty hunter Boba Fett, a fan-favorite character from the original "Star Wars" trilogy.
In a video posted on Youtube this month, Youtube user Mike Zero shared his alleged discovery of Del Toro's casting as Sir Vicrum Fett. According to Mike Zeroh, Wikiwand's page for Del Toro included the listing for his role in "The Last Jedi" and his character was named as "Sir Vicrum Fett." However, the name was changed later on to "TBA."
However, there is no official confirmation of the rumors by either Lucasfilm or Del Torro. And considering Wikiwand is just a modern interface for Wikipedia, there is no evidence to suggest that Wikiwand would have credible information. Hence, fans of the franchise should take this new information with a grain of salt.
Before this rumor of Del Toro portraying Vicrum Fett, the biggest unofficial information surrounding the actor's character in the next "Star Wars" movie was that he was being called the "man in black" because of his wardrobe and his temperament.
"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
