'Star Wars Episode IX' Cast: General Leia Will Still Appear Without CGI
Todd Fisher recently confirmed that his late sister Carrie Fisher, "Star Wars'" Princess/General Leia Organa, will still be seen in "Star Wars Episode IX" without using computer-generated imagery technology.
Todd, along with Carrie's daughter Billie Lourd, reportedly gave Disney the rights to use latest pieces of footage that feature Carrie for the yet-to-be-titled "Star Wars" film.
Carrie passed away on Dec. 27, 2016 from cardiac arrest at the age of 60.
When Todd and Lourd were approached about the matter, the former told New York Daily News' Confidential that their reaction was: "Both of us were like, 'Yes, how do you take her out of it?' And the answer is you don't."
"She's as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan — when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that's what's happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue," Todd added.
In the same report, Todd also expressed his confidence that the makers of the film will do a great job in preserving Carrie's legacy as being one of the major players in the "Star Wars" franchise.
It can also be recalled that Lucasfilm earlier addressed a rumor that Carrie's inclusion in the film franchise will continue and would be done through digital help.
In a statement released in January, Lucasfilm expressed that they do not normally react to speculations being circulated through fan theories or in the media. However, the matter was so important to them that they needed to tackle it directly.
Lucasfilm reiterated that Carrie will always be a part of the studio and that the late actress "was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend." While Carrie's loss was painful to them, the company also assured fans that they will continue to honor her legacy as Leia.
For now, fans are yet to learn how Leia's story will continue in the franchise, especially with the fact that there is still a long way to go before "Star Wars Episode IX" is released.
The eighth installment, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," is slated to open in U.S. movie theaters on Dec. 15. "Star Wars Episode IX" is scheduled for a 2019 premiere.
