'Star Wars' Han Solo Movie News, Release Date: Thandie Newton Returns to Set as Imperial Officer?

"Star Wars" fans are anxiously looking forward to the upcoming Han Solo standalone movie, but they will have to wait until May 2018 to see it. Thankfully, director Ron Howard has been sharing teaser photos on social media to tide fans over.

The latest photo Howard shared is of him with Thandie Newton, who is back on set to film scenes. Nothing about her character has been revealed thus far, but the new photo may have just given fans a hint.

According to Screen Rant, Newton could be playing an Imperial officer in the new movie. The patch on her right arm is not fully revealed due to Howard's hand covering it, but this could have been done on purpose to avoid giving away any details. The publication notes that both the insignia and her costume looks to be of Imperial origins. Of course, this has yet to be officially confirmed. For this reason, readers should take this news with a grain of salt.

Apart from that, Howard also revealed that Emilia Clarke has finished shooting all of her principal photography scenes. The director shared a photo of himself with the "Game of Thrones" actress. Clarke is not the only one who has wrapped filming, though. Howard previously announced that Donald Glover, who plays a young Lando Calrissian, has also completed all of his scenes.

Other photos shared by Howard include a reference to Kessel Run, a "desperate and dangerous" scene involving what looks to be an explosion and an action sequence.

Howard is definitely making the most out of his filming time after being brought in to replace Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The duo were originally set to helm the Han Solo standalone film, but creative differences with Lucasfilm caused them to depart the project. The change in direction led to reshoots being done, which then resulted in Michael Kenneth Williams' role being cut from the film.

The untitled "Star Wars" Han Solo movie will be released on May 25, 2018.
