'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' release date, plot spoilers: Hans Solo might die in the movie

It has been a decade since fans saw a live-action "Star Wars" movie in theaters, so fans are hungrily monitoring every new development in this movie's creation.

Taking place 30 years after the events of "Return of the Jedi," "The Force Awakens" brings back favorites Luke, Leia, and Han Solo, while introducing a new trio of heroes that will embark on a whole new series of adventures.

Oscar Isaac will play Poe Dameron, an X-Wing pilot who is said to be on a mission for Princess Leia. John Boyega will play Finn, a Stormtrooper who deserts his unit and is being hunted by Captain Plasma. Daisy Ridley will play Rey, a scavenger in a ship graveyard who is completely self-sufficient and solitary. These three new characters will be at the center of the succeeding films in the franchise.

Reprising their iconic roles are Mark Hamill, Carrie Fischer, and Harrison Ford. Fans were giddy to see Han Solo alongside Chewbacca with his familiar roar in the teaser trailer. The movie will focus more on the old characters and what has happened to them since Return of the Jedi. Fans will also see R2-D2 andC-3PO again, although C-3PO now has a red arm.

It seems that while their victory in Battle of Endor was critical, the Empire in the rest of the Galaxy still needed to be eradicated and the Rebellion continues. Mark Hamill summed it up nicely saying, "Nothing's changed, but everything's changed."

The movie will feature some interesting new villains, and it seems unclear who exactly the "big baddie" is.

The identified actors who are playing villains are Andy Serkis who will play Supreme Leader Snoke. He has a picture released of him in a motion capture suit with an evil pose. Domhnall Gleeson will be playing the evil General Hux and "Girls" breakout star Adam Driver will play Kylo Ren. Gwendoline Christie from "Game of Thrones" will play Captain Plasma. Admiral Ackbar, the squid-like commander seen in Return of the Jedi, will also have a much bigger role in the new movie.

Fans can also expect a surprising yet shocking death in the new movie. If the rumors are true, then the beloved character dying will most likely be Han Solo at the hands of Kylo Ren. Carrie Fisher, who plays Princess Leia, mentioned a death that will be hard to get over.

Other actors included in the new movie are Max von Sydow, Simon Pegg, and Lupita Nyong'o. Nyong'o will play Maz Kanata, a space pirate whose actual look is still unknown but was seen wearing a motion capture suit, as well.

The rest of the trilogy will air in 2018 and 2020, respectively.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will hit theatres on Dec. 18, and is currently being touted as the biggest movie of the year.
