'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Updates: No More Princess Leia?
A well-known character of the "Star Wars" franchise is expected to be portrayed in a different light for the upcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" film.
It was reported that the upcoming installment of the "Star Wars" series will no longer have Princess Leia. According to Entertainment Weekly, the film will refer to Princess Leia as "General." J.J. Abrams shared some details about this change in Entertainment Weekly's special "Star Wars" issue.
Abrams said, "She's referred to as General. But … there's a moment in the movie where a character sort of slips and calls her 'Princess.' The stakes are pretty high in the story for her, so there's not much goofing around where Leia's concerned. But it felt historic to have her, especially with Harrison [Ford], back in scenes together."
He added that it felt historic having the two characters come to life once more. Abrams said that he was merely a big fan when the two actors have started the franchise.
Other spoilers revealed details about Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver, and Finn's, played by John Boyega, duel. It was reported that there is someone else taking part in the duel, unlike what was shown in the film's official trailers. Apparently Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, will also be there for the showdown.
Meanwhile, Ridley shared some details about her character as well. She explained that her character will be in search for her identity and a family. Ridley explained, "She's been alone for a long time. When something occurs when you're 5, you know what went on but you don't understand the reasoning. She's hopeful for what lies ahead, whether that involves the past or not."
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be available in theaters this Dec. 18.
