Of course, he played coy as he would not want to spoil anything to the point that he was wrestling with inviting fans to watch the full trailer.

Having accepted the responsibility of helming a major "Star Wars" films like "The Last Jedi," Johnson has expected these questions and speculations will emerge.

Having been a Star Wars fan myself for the past 40 years, having spent most of my life on the other side of the curtain, I know the anticipation and the guesswork and theorizing is all part of the fun and game of it. The full trailer for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" released early this month had many under the impression that the characters will be switching sides.

The clip seemed to indicate that Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) will stop being enemies and start helping each other. Many believe that the clip was just edited to make it look like they were joining forces.

While Johnson is not keen on revealing anything about "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," he did talk about what fans can expect:

Each new film hopefully recontextualizes what came before it. That's part of the game. Yes, it's a continuation of not only The Force Awakens, but also of the legacy leading up to it.

He also said that he is not involved with the development of "Star Wars: Episode 9," which "The Force Awakens" director J.J. Abrams will be in charge of.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" will be released Dec. 15.
