'Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens' Releases New Trailer (VIDEO)

A new trailer for the upcoming "Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens" has recently been released, showing new footage, as well as new and returning characters.

Two months before it premieres in theaters, a new glimpse of a storyline and several clues have been uncovered when the latest trailer for "Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens" was launched during the "Monday Night Football" game's halftime period.

Audiences were given a longer look at the menacing Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley's Rey character in several action scenes, and how Starkiller Base could destroy.

The trailer also showed extended footage of Harrison Ford's aged Han Solo and a brief glimpse of Leia Organa Solo, reprised by Carrie Fisher.

While the film's director, J.J. Abrams, has continued to keep mum on any hints about the upcoming installment's storyline, it has been speculated that Ridley's Jakku desert scavenger, Rey, will be the dominating protagonist in the new film, based on her extended screen time in the trailers and her continuous presence in most of the movie's marketing materials.

Ford's Han Solo may be the second dominant protagonist and may assume the role of Rey's guide and mentor, helping smuggle her off the planet Jakku to help her fulfill her destiny in the movie, with his character taking on a similarity with Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) in "A New Hope," and Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) in "The Phantom Menace."

While the trailer explains that the Jedi Order may be extinct, after having been wiped out during "Revenge of the Sith," the Sith has begun to return to power in a movement led by the Knights of Ren.

Another scene shows Solo, Chewbacca, and Finn (John Boyega) captured by the enemy, and a number of airborne battles over Takodana, Jakku, and the ice planet where the Starkiller Base is located.

Lucasfilm, Bad Robot Productions, and Walt Disney will be launching "Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens" by December 18 in North American theaters.
