'Starbound' Finally Leaving Steam Early Access
After being in Steam's Early Access program for quite some time - more than three years – the two-dimensional space adventure game "Starbound" is finally leaving its beta phase with the upcoming release of the game's Update 1.0, according to a report in Engadget. The game's developer Chucklefish recently announced that Update 1.0 is coming which is said to be "the story update" for the game. Its release date however is yet unknown.
New content is arriving with the update which includes eight missions which are said to be tied to quests found in the Starbound universe, multiple biomes in each planet making exploration extra exciting, new dungeons, villages and side quests, and a crafting system with accompanying equipment. According to GameZone, progression for mission/story, ships, armor and colonies will be separate from each other, and players can also get to recruit their crew members and even mercenaries for hire.
The game features a procedurally-generated world which is set in space. There are seven character races to choose from which include Apex, Avians, Florans, Humans, Hylotyl, The Glitch and The Novakid. Each character has its own special characteristics. Players also get their own spaceship which depends on what race they are playing and this is what they will use to explore the game's endless universe, according to another report in The Inquisitr.
The report also noted that with the story update, players will get to battle it out with major bosses. As players pay attention to their colony, they will also gain more crew members who can help man their spaceship as they go out and explore other worlds.
The game is currently available for $15 on Steam Early Access. The price will likely go up when it is officially launched sometime this year. It is said to have sold over one million copies despite being in long-term beta.
