'Stargate Origins' Air Date, Cast, Teaser, Plot News: Prequel Debuts In Digital Platform
"Stargate Origins" is latest show in the Stargate franchise. The prequel is coming to MGM's digital platform called Stargate Command on a still undisclosed premiere date this fall season with 10 short episodes.
The studio recently released a behind-the-scenes teaser to "Stargate Origins" that shows a young Catherine Langford. Australian actress Ellie Gall plays the character previously depicted by Kelly Vint, Elizabeth Hoffman, Nancy McClure, Glynis Davies and Viveca Lindfors in the other franchise.
"Stargate Origins" will follow the budding archeologist and explorer when her father, Professor Langford (Connor Trinneer), first discovered the Stargate. The younger Langford will unlock some of the Earth's dark secrets at a time period when she's still learning to become an expert of the mysterious portal.
The timeline of "Stargate Origins," however, will not feature a working Stargate just yet because Daniel Jackson will still figure out how it works. James Spader played Jackson in the 1994 movie, while Michael Shanks portrayed the character in the TV show, "Stargate SG-1."
Each of the 10 episodes of "Stargate Origins" will run for 10 minutes only. It won't, however, be short on the action.
"We had stunts and we had blood and we had emotional moments," director Mercedes Bryce Morgan said. "I feel like we really hit all those and at the end it was going and going and going and going."
MGM digital platform head Kevin Conroy stated that "Stargate Origins" is the studio's gift for fans who kept the franchise alive for 25 years following the original movies, three long-running shows and an animated series. Revisiting the franchise as a prequel allows for the expansion of the science fiction's mythology.
"Stargate Origins" also stars Shvan Aladdin, Philip Alexander, Salome Azizi, Derek Chariton, Tonatiuh Elizarraraz, Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez, Lincoln Werner Hoppe, Sarah Navratil, Aylam Orian, Daniel Rashid and Justin Michael Terry. Watch out for further announcements of the show's release date on Stargate Command.
