Steam Launches Digital Gift Cards That Can Be Sent as Presents This Holiday Season
Just in time for the upcoming holidays, Steam has finally introduced digital gift cards that people can send as presents to their game lover friends and relatives.
It is important to note that Steam has already been selling physical gift cards that are available in selected retailers such as GameStop and Best Buy. However, with the introduction of digital gift cards, Steam users can virtually send funds to other gamers for their Steam Wallet.
Based on promotional images, the Steam gift cards are sold in $20, $50, and $100 variants. There are various online payment methods that Steam users can choose from to buy the digital gift cards, such as Paypal and Bitcoin. The site also accepts payments using debit and credit cards like Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and JCB.
However, GamesBeat clarified that Steam would not allow the purchase of the digital gift cards via existing Steam Wallet funds. The report added that buying these gift cards appear to be only possible through Steam's official website. Valve has yet to add the feature on Steam's desktop program.
It is also strategic for Steam to introduce another way of purchasing these gift cards, especially since they have major sales coming up in the following months.
Steam has already launched its annual Halloween sales event and it is ongoing. While the promo says players can "save big on spooky titles," the site has also put non-horror games up for huge discounts.
Some of the horror games being sold with huge discounts now are "Dead by Daylight," "Friday the 13th: The Game," "Dying Light," "The Evil Within," "Detention," "Killing Floor 2," "Resident Evil 7" and more.
All of the above-mentioned games are on sale with 50 percent discounts while some of the other titles get as much as a 90 percent price cut until Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. EDT.
