Actor Stephen Baldwin recently made an appearance at the Ocean Bowl Skate Park in Ocean City, Maryland, as part of an annual middle school conference sponsored by Youth for Christ Conferences. Over the Nov. 16-17 weekend, the actor-turned-evangelist spoke before crowds of young people for “Alive 2004 - On The Edge,” in an effort to help middle-school children in making sensible life decisions.

"This year's [Alive 2004] conference is called 'On the Edge’," Baldwin told the Maryland-based Daily Times. "It focuses on the fact that middle school students are on the edge of making decisions that will dramatically change their lives.”

"Our hope is that the seeds of spiritual greatness will be planted in the students that will benefit their future," Baldwin continued. "Many of the problems that were formerly high-school problems are now prominent in every middle school across the country."

“Alive 2004”—a combination of conferences and sports exhibitions—featured appearances by extreme skateboarder Tim Byrne, music by the Cross Movement and FuseBOX, as well as a number of guest speakers.

Baldwin, who is also a skateboard enthusiast, spoke on Saturday at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center and also gave a skateboard exhibition at the Ocean Bowl Skate Park.

Baldwin’s conversion and his work in producing “Livin’ It”—an “extreme sports” DVD to reach kids in the skateboarding and stunt biking culture—has been reported in places like USA Today, The New York Times, salon.com, Fox News Channel and CNN. More recently, he’s also been a regular at Christian rock festivals and similar evangelical events.

According to recent reports, plans are being made to organize a 2005 bus tour to endorse the “Livin’ It” DVD, which Baldwin directed and hosts. Baldwin said the tour would bring some of the top Christian “core sports” athletes to malls in cities across the country.
