Steve Harvey Reveals Morning Prayer Regimen to Stave Off Depression
Before taking on hosting duties for his nationally syndicated radio show or multiple television programs each day, Steve Harvey spends time with God. Now, he's giving people a glimpse into his daily prayer life that begins with gratitude.
"Every morning before I get started, I do the same thing every day. I go to my notes section of my phone," the comedian-turned-best-selling author and philanthropist told Forbes magazine in an interview on Monday. "I pull up my morning gratitude prayer and I read this list of things that I'm grateful for everyday. Then I get to this break and I read this whole list of everything I'm asking God for today."
After Harvey starts his day with a morning gratitude prayer, the entertainer said he thanks God for about 56 things each day before asking for about 45 things.
Starting his day with this process has an impact on the way he thinks and feels. "It causes me to start my day in the right frame of mind. You cannot be depressed and grateful at the same time," he said. "It's the two emotions that can't reside in the same space. So, I remove all depression and I start my whole day with gratitude."
Earlier this month, Harvey released the book Jump: Take the Leap of Faith to Achieve Your Life of Abundance. In his latest work, Harvey uses his personal story to inspire people with his Christian faith.
"Steve beautifully and thoughtfully explains what faith is and how it can work miracles in our daily lives. He also talks in-depth about the power of human imagination and how we can use it to make our dreams come true," reads the description of the book on Amazon.
"As God inspires us to build and create a larger vision for our lives, Steve shows us that when we combine our inherent power with God's divine plan, we can each achieve anything. Written in an engaging storytelling format in Steve's warm, inviting voice, each chapter of this thoughtful book offers invaluable advice and anecdotes that illuminate the power of imagination and how to use our God-given visions to enrich our lives."
Harvey has used multiple platforms to tell people about God. Last January, Harvey's team captured a special moment when the "Family Feud" host spoke to the audience about God after the cameras stopped rolling.
"You cannot name one single thing God has not gotten you through. If He's not gotten you through it, He's getting you through it now," Harvey told his audience in a message that inspired his latest book. "Your Bible says that He comes to give you life and life more abundantly. If I were you, I would jump because that's the only way to get to that abundant life. You've got to jump."
