Steve Jobs Dead: Apple Co-Founder, CEO Dies Aged 56

Steve Jobs, the co-founder and former-CEO of Apple and the genius behind the development of the iPhone, iPad, iMac and iTunes, has passed away in California.

On Apple’s homepage is a black and white picture of Jobs with the written text “Steve Jobs 1955-2011.”

When clicking on Job’s picture on Apple’s website, a message is written: “Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”

He had suffered from pancreatic cancer in 2004 and had a liver transplant in 2009. He stepped down as Apple’s CEO less than two months ago, on Aug 24. 2011.

His position was succeeded by Tim Cook.

"I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know," Jobs had written in his letter of resignation. "Unfortunately, that day has come."

Job’s death comes a day after the launch of Apple’s iPhone 4S.

Jobs co-founded Apple Computer in 1976 with Steve Wozniak. He has changed the world of computing technology with his genius.
