Indiana Jones New Movie News: Steven Spielberg Has Hopes to Direct New Film

If the script is right, Steven Spielberg says he is interested in coming back to direct the new "Indiana Jones" movie. Sources close to the director told Deadline that "assuming a script comes in to his satisfaction," he would like to take the helm again. A report on Cinema Blend also said that no script is in the horizon yet.

Spielberg directed all four films of the franchise, namely "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

"Indiana Jones" was created by George Lucas. The first film of the series came out in 1981, followed by one prequel and two sequels, which were released under Lucasfilm. When the Walt Disney Company bought Lucasfilm in 2012 and then bought the rights from Paramount in 2013, one report on ScreenRant said that it allowed Disney to "take full control of the 'Indiana Jones' franchise. Since that time, however, George Lucas, the character's creator, has not been involved in any development or re-development of a new movie. So Disney has to look for somebody else to write the script.

Despite the lack of a script, Disney is already eyeing Chris Pratt of "Jurassic World" to play the "swashbuckling archaeologist," according to another report on Deadline. Pratt became superhero material after his role in the blockbuster "Guardians of the Galaxy." In "Jurassic World," some reports say he even looks like "Indiana Jones." Pratt however has yet to confirm if he has indeed been approached by Disney for the said role.

Harrison Ford, the actor who played the character in all the movies, has hinted over a year ago that he is also "still open to picking up his fedora and whip" and coming back as "Indiana Jones."
