5. New Jersey State Police arrived at the Capitol before the National Guard

Reiterating how “the optics of the National Guard showing up” led to a delay in their arrival at the scene, Sund detailed how soldiers were not allowed to go to the Capitol until after “the fight’s over” at 6 p.m. He outlined how the National Guard was lined up with shields for a photo op for military magazines “with the Capitol in the background.”

“When they finally showed up, New Jersey State Police beat them to the Capitol,” he declared. In addition to seeking assistance from the National Guard, Sund had reached out to law enforcement agencies throughout the Northeastern U.S. for help getting the situation at the Capitol under control.

After Carlson jumped in to mention that “they sent other guardsmen to protect the homes of generals.” Sund clarified that the U.S. Department of Defense “sent other resources” to generals’ homes, meaning that they could have relied on the National Guard and/or Pentagon Force Protection while leaving the Capitol unattended as it was under siege.
