'Steven Universe: Save the Light' Release Dates for PS4, Xbox One Announced

"Steven Universe: Save the Light" now has definite release dates confirmed for its release. Cartoon Network announced that the first console game based on the acclaimed "Steven Universe" animated series will be coming out on Oct. 31 for the PlayStation 4 in North and Latin America, with an Xbox One release coming right after on Nov. 3.

The new title from Grumpyface studios may be the first of the "Steven Universe" series for home consoles, but it won't be the first time someone has made a game out of the animated series. There's also the "Steven Universe: Attack the Light" mobile game from the same studio, as Polygon recalls.

The new console format has allowed Chris Graham and his team more freedom, as he noted in an earlier interview. "It's been liberating, really," he remarked.

"We always had a bigger vision for the mobile game than we were able to do ... [with] the show lending itself to the scope we wanted and us being RPG fans and kind of wanting to get into some of these deeper RPG mechanics," Graham explained.

Fans of the series can pick the title up on Xbox One as early as Monday, Oct. 23, when the game opens up for pre-orders on the Xbox Store. Both versions of the game will only be available as digital downloads and will cost $25, according to GameSpot.

More news is expected for a global release of the PlayStation 4 version of "Steven Universe: Save the Light" in the coming weeks. There's been no word of pre-order options for the game on the PlayStation 4 as of this time.

The video below shows the turn-based role-playing gameplay of "Steven Universe: Save the Light," which faithfully translates the colorful Cartoon Network series to the consoles. The title is coming to the Xbox One on Nov. 3, with the PlayStation 4 version coming by the end of the month in the U.S., Canada and Latin America regions.
