Stevie Wonder Divorce: Settlement Will See Some Assets Split With Kai Millard Morris
The Stevie Wonder divorce saga has shocked his fans as recent reports have claimed he is splitting from wife Kai Millard Morris.
The massively popular singer song writer officially filed for divorce earlier this week, reportedly citing "irreconcilable differences" as the grounds for the break up. The filing has interested some as it notes that he has been separated from his wife for nearly three years, since October 2009.
The divorce papers were filed by his rep. Laura Wasser, and used his legal name, Stevland Morris. The papers were also signed using two fingerprints due to Wonder being blind.
The divorcing couple have two young children aged 7 years old and 10 years old. Wonder has requested for joint custody of the children, but has also agreed to pay both spousal and child support to Kai Millard Morris.
Stevie Wonder and Kai Millard Morris were married in 2001. Prior to their marriage Wonder had already amassed a huge amount of wealth. It is believed that those pre-marital assets will not be split between the divorcing couple. However, many other assets still amounting to a significant amount, will be split between the pair, according to various reports.
Wonder was celebrated as a child prodigy, who developed into one of the most creative musical figures of the late 20th century. Some of his best known works are singles such as "Superstition," "Sir Duke," "I Wish," and "I Just Called to Say I Love You."
Stevie Wonder's blindness has been attributed to his being born six weeks premature. Due to his prematurity the blood vessels at the back of his eyes had not yet reached the front, and their aborted growth caused the retinas to detach. The medical term for his condition is retinopathy of prematurity, or ROP, and it was exacerbated by the excess oxygen used at that time during oxygen therapy given while in his hospital incubator.
