Stolen Utah Baby Jesus Has Been Returned After a Year
A baby Jesus figurine stolen from Ace Hardware store’s nativity scene almost a year ago has finally been returned.
In the middle of the night, the baby Jesus was left in a wheelbarrow in front of the hardware store in St. George, Utah. The figurine was returned in good condition, with no indication of who returned it.
Nick Janneck, manager of Ace Hardware discovered the returned figurine on Sunday morning.
“We have a Christmas miracle on our hands,” Janeck said in statement. “He’s in as good a condition as when he left.”
The manger for the nativity scene was custom-built for Ace to hold its life-sized Jesus, Mary and Joseph figurines.
The figurine went missing last Christmas. The other two figurines, which are screwed into the set up, were left untouched.
Ace Hardware put out an offer for the missing figure, but never received a response.
“I’m hoping someone found God,” Janneck said in a statement. “But maybe a parent was cleaning out a kid’s room and found it and returned it.”
Stolen decorations are not uncommon around the holidays. Last month, a Moreno Valley, Calif. family discovered most of their outdoor Christmas decorations had been stolen. A wreath was reported stolen from a Longmont, Colo. home just last week.
“We’re putting him out only during the day now,” Janneck said in a statement. “We’re going to be a little more cautious this year.”
