Strange Celebrity Memorabilia: Gambling Site Makes Roulette Ball From Michael Jackson's Hair
A gambling Website, OnlineGamblingPal.com, has acquired Michael Jackson’s hair and plans to turn the singer’s stringy remains into a roulette ball.
“We wanted to create a unique tribute to the undisputed King of Pop,” reads the website’s press release.
The gambling site, which reviews online casinos among other services, managed to snag the scraps of hair from online memorabilia merchant GottaHaveRockAndRoll.com for a whopping $10,871 in an auction.
According to their press release, bidding started at $1,000, but people just really wanted to get their hands on a piece of the late King of Pop.
The hair was apparently accumulated from the Carlyle Hotel in New York, where the singer resided while attending a charity event. Somehow, Jackson had left behind a little piece of himself, which was then promptly collected.
Simply buying the strands of hair was not enough to immortalize the star, however. The Website plans to turn the last vestiges of Jackson into a functioning one-off roulette ball.
“The ball itself will be made to the highest professional standards, ensuring it will be eligible for use at any licensed casino’s roulette table,” said the site in their statement. “Indeed, considering Jackson dedicated his life to entertaining millions, the prospect of this very special ball captivating crowds at roulette tables seems like a fitting use for it.”
Although stranger celebrity memorabilia has been purchased in the past - someone once bought Britney Spears’ used chewing gum for $14,000 - there is little use for the gambling Website to canonize Jackson through a roulette ball.
At least, that would be the case, had they not immediately tried to make money from their newly acquired merchandise.
OnlineGamblingPal.com plans to sell the roulette ball made of MJ’s hair to the highest bidding casino or gambling organization, presumably for more than the $10,871 they originally paid.
The statement reads: “We would therefore like to encourage any casino interested in using this unique ball at its tables to contact us. Together, we can ensure Michael Jackson continues to rock and ‘ROLL’ forever.”
The roulette ball will be one of the weirder ways to commemorate the legendary singer.
