'Stranger Things' News: Vintage Packaging of Blu-ray Release Makes the Rounds Online

The first season of the hit Netflix series "Stranger Things" is set to arrive to Blu-ray, and recent reports suggest that its packaging is going to be retro. The upcoming release will feature a VHS packaging that is reminiscent of the typical VHS tapes during the 90's.

Due to the success of "Stranger Things," fans have been clamoring for its home video release. Although Netflix has yet to officially announce the Blu-ray release this weekend at the New York Comic-Con, a new teaser for its packaging has already arrived ahead of the announcement.

Over on Twitter, Birth Movies Death shared an image of the packaging of the "Stranger Things" season 1's Blu-ray release, showing a picturesque VHS-themed packaging and an age-old warning on its back. A set of images including the one uploaded by Birth Movies Death also surfaced on Imgur on Oct. 6, revealing the home video release's package and the inclusions of the Collector's Edition.

According to the leaked details, the Collector's Edition will come with a 4-disc Blu-ray and DVD set and a collectible poster. The post did not give a close look at the poster, so it is difficult to make out what it's all about.

It is not common for Netflix to get sudden home video releases of its series, so to know that a "Stranger Things" Blu-ray is coming was a huge surprise for fans. However, the fact that the giant streaming network released "Stranger Things" cassette tapes for the soundtrack of the series earlier this 2017 somewhat justifies the upcoming release of the series on home video. The cassette tapes also featured classic packaging resembling the leaked packaging of the Blu-ray release.

As to when the Blu-ray will be released, there are speculations that it will arrive on Oct. 17, ahead of the "Stranger Things" season 2 premiere on Oct. 27.
