'Street Fighter V' News: New Character Kolin Debuts on Feb. 28
Capcom has announced a new addition to the "Street Fighter V" character roster. Kolin, the "Phantasm of Snow and Ice," is set to make her game debut on Feb. 28.
Kolin will be included as part of the "Street Fighter V" season 2 Character Pass, a downloadable content (DLC) available for purchase for $20. This DLC also includes another familiar fighter, Akuma. Four more additional characters are yet to be announced, but they will be part of the Feb. 28 release as well.
The official Capcom blog gives a background to her character. Kolin was last seen in "Street Fighter III" working with Gill and his shadowy Illuminati organization. Her goals this time are yet unknown — until the current game's timeline, she was working in secret to stop anyone brave enough to interfere with Gill's plans. She will do anything to further her agenda, as a surprise development will show in her story.
Kolin's fighting style is described by Capcom as based on the Russian martial art Systema. Her attacks, which uses a variety of slashes and stabs with her hands, are deadly enough, and she further augments these with her ability to manipulate ice. This talent, granted to her by Gill, allows her to perform a variety of moves such as launching icicles to stab and freeze opponents foolish enough to stand in her way.
Players who will avail of the DLC on Feb. 28 will also get Kolin in her three costumes. The "Story" costume features her in a soft cap and mittens, with an orange-gold scarf wrapped around the lower part of her face. The "Premium Battle" outfit shows her in a vest and diving suit, with a headset and night vision goggles for accessories. Her "Nostalgia" costume is an adaptation of her trademark "Street Fighter III" appearance, showing her in business attire and gloves.
"Street Fighter" fans who are in the area of San Francisco, California and want to try out her character before the digital launch can give her a playtest on Feb. 15. On this date, Lupe Fiasco will be launching his "DROGAS Light" album, along with exhibition matches to celebrate the newly revealed characters for season 2. Capcom has more details on this event.
