Street Renamed 'Justin Bieber Way' by New 11-Year-Old Mayor

Caroline Gonzalez, the 11-year-old mayor of Forney, Texas for all of Tuesday, has exercised her new power. Caroline’s first major act since taking on the position – naming a street after Justin Bieber.

A temporary “Justin Bieber Way” street sign went up Tuesday during a ceremony in Caroline’s hometown, Forney, about 19 miles east of Dallas.

The 11-year-old won the right to be mayor of the Texan town through a Facebook competition constructed to increase interest in municipal government among young people.

E! Online asked Gonzalez why she chose to honor Bieber, Caroline answered, “Because I really like Justin Bieber. I like his music and I like him.”

“And I thought, why not have a street in my home town named after my favorite singer?” she added.

Brian Brooks, City Manager, told the Associated Press that Forney officials could not reach Bieber and were not able to invite him to the city.

City officials say that the sign would by no means break the bank, as it was made for about $20 and would only be displayed on Tuesday.

Justin Bieber was ranked in People Magazine’s top-earning teen actors and musicians, for bringing in $53 million in 2010. The majority of which came from his movie, “Never Say Never,” and his fragrance, “Someday.”

The movie grossed over $73 million, making it the number one concert-themed film in U.S. history to date.
