'Suicide Squad' Director David Ayer Teases Joker and Harley Quinn Movie in New Image

As fans may already know, the DC Extended Universe is planning to give Joker and Harley Quinn a movie of their own. Now, it looks like even without any official word from the studio, the production for the "Joker and Harley Quinn" movie might be taking off. In fact, rumors are swirling around that it might already have a director.

Harley Quinn and Joker are two of the most fan-favorite characters in last year's DC film "Suicide Squad." The movie featured both characters prominently and included flashbacks with images that were reminiscent of Bruce Timm's and Alex Ross' classic artworks.

Lately, "Suicide Squad" director David Ayer has been actively sharing photos on Twitter of the two characters. He has also been retweeting images promoting Harley Quinn's first appearance in "Batman: The Animated Series." Although the images do not seem to mean anything on the surface, there are speculations that Ayer's recent posts mean to suggest that he is finally coming in to helm the project.

In one of the photos posted by Ayer, Joker and Harley Quinn were shown dancing. Joker, who is portrayed by Jared Leto, wore a suit. Meanwhile, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn was dressed in her jester costume. The image was reminiscent of Alex Ross' classic depiction of "Tango with Evil." The scene was not included in the "Suicide Squad" movie.

Ayer posted the image several days ago on his Twitter page, and many fans came to wonder what the picture was for. Although DC has yet to confirm, there are speculations that Ayer might step in to direct the film. Fans are mostly happy about the possibility, although there are some who wish for DC to tap someone new to helm the project.

Although details about the Joker and Harley Quinn movie are still kept under wraps, the good news is that fans will be able to catch them together again as Leto and Robbie reprise their roles for "Suicide Squad 2." The film is set to hit theaters in 2019.
