'Suicide Squad' Movie News: Batman Has History with All Suicide Squad Members
Initially, it was only speculated that Ben Affleck's Batman character in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" will have a cameo role in the upcoming DC and Warner Bros. movie, "Suicide Squad." With Affleck confirming that he will, indeed, appear in the movie for a cameo role, excitement for the film even became more intense. However, with the release of the latest trailer of "Suicide Squad," people started speculating that Affleck may not only be lending his presence in the film via a cameo role; there could be more to it.
In an interview with Fandango, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who plays the role of Killer Croc in the movie, revealed that every member of the Suicide Squad has a long standing history with Batman.
"All of these so-called villains are villains that Batman has had some history with and caught and brought into Arkham Prison. So whether it comes before or after I'm not sure, but I do know we've all been captured by him and imprisoned in Arkham, so we've all got a gripe to bear against the ol' Bat."
In the past months, various websites picked up a fan theory saying that Affleck's Batman can play more than just a cameo role in "Suicide Squad" because Jared Leto's Joker can actually be his second Robin. The fan theory points out certain scenes and dialogues in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" that hints of the possibility of the theory, such as Robin's suit vandalized by the Joker and Affleck's dialogue in the movie saying that not everybody remains good.
While the dialogue of Affleck's Batman/Bruce Wayne can be in reference to himself, the theory suggests that he can be referring to his sidekick turned nemesis, Joker. In the comic book, Batman had two Robin's. The first, Dick Grayson, proceeded to become Night Wing. On the other hand, the second one, Jason Todd, was beaten to death by Joker, and was resurrected by DC as a villain, Red Hood.
With Akinnuoye-Agbaje confirming that Affleck's Batman has a history with every Suicide Squad member in the movie, fans can only wonder how much history the superhero has with the Joker.
"Suicide Squad" hits the theaters on August 5.
