'Suicide Squad' Movie News: Movie to Feature Joker's Origin?
After the release of the latest "Suicide Squad" trailer, more and more people have been looking forward to its release in the theaters. While it's true that the said trailer highlighted the funny one-liners of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn character, it can't also be denied that it has also given rise to various speculations about the movie, especially Jared Leto's Joker character. Among the many speculations, one of the strongest is that "Suicide Squad" also features Joker's origin story.
As it has been announced that the comic book "Justice League" no. 50 will feature Joker's origins, Coming Soon asked Leto if the upcoming "Suicide Squad" will also feature the origin of his character. Apparently, the actor is bound by confidentiality in his contract, hence, he refused to confirm nor deny the speculation.
"I don't think I'm allowed to talk about that so much. But we walked in a completely new direction. I think we knew that we had to do that. It was important to do that. When the Joker has been done and done so well, it gives you a bit of an indication of where you shouldn't go. There's a bit of a map there. That's the good part about it," he answered cautiously.
In the event that "Suicide Squad," indeed, features Joker's origin, one of the most persistent theories about is that it will have a direct link to Ben Affleck's Batman in the "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" movie. According to speculations, Joker may actually be Batman's second Robin, Jason Todd.
Some pundits point that there are some clues in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" that can justify the said theory, such as the vandalized Robin costume and Bruce Wayne's dialogue saying that nobody remains good forever.
However, with Leto's vague statement on "Suicide Squad" featuring the origin story of his character, only time will tell if the above-mentioned fan theory can prove itself to be more than just a theory.
