'Suicide Squad' Release Date News: To Feature Love Triangle Between Deadshot, Quinn, and the Joker
In what could be the most intriguing news about the upcoming villain-packed movie to hit the big screens, Will Smith revealed recently that a love triangle will be featured between his Deadshot, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, and Jared Leto's Joker.
Fans already know that the movie will be featuring villains who have been recruited to fight for the government in exchange of a hefty price: freedom. While the villains have been turned into heroes, they will be called the "Suicide Squad" since they have nobody else to help them quench the evil of this world but themselves — no military assistance, and no other special agents from the government.
In an interview with Empire Magazine for its fourth cover, Smith talks about his character named Deadshot, a "troubled assassin," who isn't just a former villain but will also be known as the "new American sniper."
The award-winning actor said he trained vigorously for the role as his character would need more than the normal acting prowess he already has. He also hinted that a love triangle will be brewing between Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and The Joker. "Deadshot's actually eyeballing [Harley] a little bit. There's a pretty ragged romantic triangle there," he said.
Fans of the DC comic book world know that Harley is romantically involved with the Joker so Smith's revelation about the movie's plot may come as an interesting surprise to those who have only known Harley as the Joker's side-kick-slash-love-interest.
On the other hand, reports point out that Deadshot and Harley have actually been paired several times in animated movies and in the comic books. At one point, Deadshot even went as far as killing himself so Harley can keep living.
The outlet further adds that with Deadshot coming in between Harley and the Joker, the disturbed lady can now open doors to find independence from the Joker and prove that she can stand on her own and establish a name for herself rather than just be called the Joker's assistant.
Director David Ayer said earlier that Harley will find the courage to slip away from the Joker's shadow. "It's about her breaking free of the Joker and becoming this fully actualized, independent person," he said.
"Suicide Squad" comes to theaters on August 5, 2016.
