The shocker of the midseason finale of "Suits" Season 6 came in the way of Jessica Pearson's exit from the series. She decided to leave the firm in order to move to Chicago with her former boyfriend Jeff Malone.
More than a corporate lawyer
Jessica (Gina Torres) decided to get back together with Jeff (D.B. Woodside) and hopes to spend the rest of their lives together with the move. This after she was able to save the life of an innocent man in death penalty for a crime he did not commit. Jessica realized that being a corporate lawyer is not something she wanted to do anymore and stepped down as a name partner of Pearson Specter Lit in "Suits" Season 6.

Torres' departure from the series was something the fans didn't see coming. Since the first episode of "Suits" Season 6, back stories of the show's different characters were featured. Jessica was seen looking back on how she got to be on the top of Pearson Specter Litt.
Not the last of Jessica Pearson
However, Torres is the first one to say that fans might not have seen the last of Jessica Pearson yet in the series. She is not ruling out making guest appearances since "Suits" seems to be nearing the end of its run soon.
She said this in a recent interview after her departure from "Suits" Season 6, where she joked about the boys messing up and needing to call her after she's gone. Torres added that even if she still doesn't know the hows and whens of her return, she is definite about it because "everybody comes back".
Another confirmation that Torres made is about her new acting gig. She is joining the series, "The Catch" for its second season along with Peter Krause and Mireille Enos.
Meanwhile, EP Aaron Korsh himself confirmed that Torres' appearance in the "Suits" Season 6 midseason finale won't be her last appearance in the series. He added that if it were up to him, Jessica will stay until the end of the show. With this assurance as well as Torres', "Suits" fans should have high hopes for Jessica's return.
Harvey and Donna's second chance
The most affected with Jessica's departure from the firm seems to be Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht). She has become a mother figure and a mentor to him. It was also teased in the summer finale of "Suits" Season 6 about Harvey and Donna (Sarah Rafferty) having a second chance in their relationship. Korsh said with Harvey in a vulnerable time, it will deepen the intimacy of Donna and Harvey.
Donna reached out to Harvey and consoled him on Jessica's leaving. They ended up holding each other's hands and this sweet gesture gave hope that a rekindled romance might take place when "Suits" Season 6 returns in spring of 2017.
