'Suits' Season 6: The Donna App Triggers Real Donna's Personal Growth; Spin-off Series in the Works?

Will the upcoming season 7 of legal drama "Suits" usher in a brand new Donna (Sarah Rafferty)? Now that there is only one episode left in the show's sixth season, it seems that everybody's favorite executive assistant is ready to forge a path of her own.

In a recent interview with TVLine, actress Rafferty shared the real story behind The Donna, a personal assistant based on her personality that she and IT specialist Benjamin (David Reale) have been looking to sell to investors. But the app's technicalities are not really at the core of the whole Donna storyline, and all of its nifty features pale in contrast to the important role the app will play in Donna's character growth.

"Really, it's just a catalyst for actual Donna to do some soul-searching about her personal identity," Rafferty said. She also denied any knowledge of her character possibly leaving Pearson Specter Litt in the future to pursue a new career.

The executive assistant, who realized in the previous episode of "Suits" that she has always really been viewed as nothing more than a legal secretary, will begin to question her worth and try to find ways to make herself relevant.

Going into season 7, Rafferty expressed her desire to let Donna learn more about her identity separate from Harvey (Gabriel Macht). The actress viewed her character's need to leave a mark, to feel like she's doing something important with her life.

Meanwhile, an exclusive report from TVLine has just hinted at a possible spin-off series featuring Jessica (Gina Torres), who previously left the firm to pursue a life with former boyfriend Jeff (D.B. Woodside) in Chicago. When asked about it, Universal Cable Productions refused to either confirm or deny the matter, further saying that the studio and the "Suits" team would rather focus on what's next for the characters going into season 7.

The season finale of "Suits" season 6 is set to air on Wednesday, March 1, at 10 p.m. EST on USA, while the show's seventh season is expected to air later this year.
