'Suits' Spinoff Spoilers: Jessica and Jeff's Romance Continues in Upcoming Drama

Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) and Jeff Malone's (D.B. Woodside) relationship will be further explored on the upcoming "Suits" spinoff.

Fans can recall that Jessica left the legal drama to start anew with her boyfriend, Jeff, in Chicago. Executive producer Aaron Korsh recently caught up with TVLine and he offered some new information about the spinoff starring the former P.S.L. partner.

"In our minds, they're still together, and we're still formulating how that's going to work in the spinoff," said the EP. "D.B. Woodside is a series regular on [Lucifer], so it's not like we have 100 percent access to him. So we're still trying to figure out what to do about that in terms of the spinoff."

Jessica was an important character in "Suits" from the show's debut until Torres exited in the season 6 finale. The spinoff centered on Jessica has been in the works for quite some time now, but fans just have to wait to see what's next for the character when she starts over in Chicago.

In the midseason finale of the flagship drama, Jessica was disbarred in the state of New York. This means she has completely cut all her ties with practicing law in the Big Apple. While it is clear that she has a future elsewhere, Jessica's disbarment might mean she can no longer return to the original series if her spinoff becomes a flop.

Unlike "Suits," the USA Network spinoff will not be a legal drama. Instead, it will focus on Jessica's new career as she makes her way into the world of Chicago politics. Jessica must face new challenges that will still require her legal brilliance. Further details about the plot and additional cast members will likely be announced later this year.

The yet-to-be-named "Suits" spinoff is expected to premiere early next year on USA Network.
