'Super Mario Galaxy' Releases on Wii U, as Nintendo Announces Holiday Sale

The 3D platforming classic "Super Mario Galaxy" has arrived on the Wii U. In addition, Nintendo has also announced Wii U and 3DS games that are currently on sale until the New Year.

"Super Mario Galaxy" on Nintendo Wii U

A classic Wii game has finally made its way to the Wii U, thanks to Nintendo's Virtual Console service. The company announced "Super Mario Galaxy" for the Wii U just before Christmas day. On Thursday, Dec. 24, the company made the game available for download via its Nintendo eShop for $20.

The game features a more complex gameplay but with more simple controls. It is considered to be a "pinnacle of bold 3D design" and provides more variety than what can be expected from a platformer, according to Venture Beat. For instance, players can fly Mario around as a bee or control him as he becomes a ghost, a spring, or a ball.

"Super Mario Galaxy" joins other "Super Mario" games playable on the console. Gamers can now play it along with "Super Mario Galaxy 2," "Super Mario 64," "Super Mario 3D," "Super Mario Bros.," and more.

Nintendo eShop sales

Nintendo is showing gamers more love this holiday season as it announced in a press release several titles that are currently on sale in its Nintendo eShop. A number of games for both the Wii U and 3DS are discounted from now until the middle of January.
