'Super Mario Odyssey' Release Date News: Will Game Offer Multiplayer Support?

"Super Mario Odyssey" is one of the most anticipated games coming to the Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, it is not coming until the holidays.

Not much has been revealed about the game in terms of its features, but if there is one that many fans hope to see, it is a multiplayer mode.

Red Bull believes that multiplayer support for "Super Mario Odyssey" will be a welcome addition. The site believes that this is what boosted the success of "Super Mario 3D World."

With the positive reception of the multiplayer mode in the 2013 platform video game, the publication believes it will be remiss for Nintendo not to take advantage of it in the new "Super Mario" title.

The idea of having a four-player co-op gameplay in "Super Mario Odyssey" is not too far-fetched especially for the Nintendo Switch and what the next-generation console can do. In fact, it is simply making the most of the machine's features and power.

So far, however, Nintendo has teased nothing but single-player gameplay for "Super Mario Odyssey," but with the release date of the game still far off, a multiplayer reveal might still be on the horizon.

Another feature fans hope to see in the latest "Super Mario" installment is amiibo support. There are already plenty of Mario amiibos out there, but Nintendo can take things to the next level with the "Super Mario Odyssey" toy-to-life figures by giving them shared connectivity.

"Super Mario Odyssey" is already unique from previous installments as it sees Mario leave the Mushroom Kingdom to go on a new sandbox-style journey.

It stands as the first sandbox "Super Mario" game in a while and the third in the entire franchise following "Super Mario 64" released 1996 and "Super Mario Sunshine" released in 2002.

"Set sail between expansive worlds aboard an airship, and perform all-new actions, such as throwing Mario's cap," Nintendo teases on its website of "Super Mario Odyssey."

One of the areas that Mario will explore in "Super Mario Odyssey" is New Donk City, a location inspired by New York City. Here, the hero interacts with real people, a nice modern touch that makes the game unique from its predecessors.
