Super Smash Bros 4 Director Does Not Like the Concept of Sequels: 'Good Games Attract Fans'
Super Smash Bros 4 director, Masahiro Sakurai recently said he is not too fond of sequels in video games, and does not like "reusing" video games.
Sakurai told Games Industry International that the video game industry produces more remakes and sequels compared to any other entertainment industry.
"Good games attract fans, and if you have fans, you have an advantage. You try to use that to make the title something bigger, but that doesn't mean it's okay to give up on innovation. Popular, well-made games deserve praise, but titles that have some kind of unique creative spark to them also need to be praised in this way," he said according to Polygon.
Oddly enough, Sakurai is working on the fourth sequel of the Super Smash Bros series. However, the game in itself is unique in the characters and the way they brought together stars in gaming.
The fighting game pits together Nintendo superstars of all console eras along with a select few third parties characters in a battle royal of intense non-stop action.
The characters confirmed for the game so far are: Mario, Luigi, Link, Samus, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Pit, Olimar, Toon Link, Princess Peach, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, and the Villager.
Some consider Mario, Sonic, and Mega Man to be the "trinity" of gaming as these three have been waging their own wars on different consoles and in sales for over 20 years. Now for the first time, gamers can actually have them duke it out.
Masahiro Sakurai posted about the role of the three stars in the next game and seemed just as excited about them as the gaming community.
"The trio as joint co-stars. Who is the strongest of them all?!" he pondered through the Wii U's Miiverse.
The game will arrive on the Wii U and 3DS sometime in 2014.
