'Super Smash Bros.' DLC Coming Out Next Month, as Game Director Reveals New Project Already Decided
"Super Smash Bros." Game Director Masahiro Sakurai is currently taking a breather but this hasn't stopped him from giving fans of the hit Nintendo brawler some updates on DLC and upcoming projects.
In a short blurb published in Japanese video game magazine Famitsu, Sakurai revealed his current project is almost over, but the next one is already decided. Here's the full translation of Sakurai's blurb titled "Breather" from Source Gaming:
"I've been developing the DLC characters for Smash for 3DS/ Wii U. I've been very thorough when making these characters, so I needed a lot of time. I haven't been able to take a vacation since starting this project, but it's almost over! I want to enjoy every day like it's a Sunday. However, that doesn't mean my next job hasn't been decided already. So it's less like I'm taking a break, and more like I'm taking a breather for a moment."
Since 2014, Sakurai has been talking about taking a break from work, which he said had negatively affected his health. Although not a full-fledged vacation, the breather should give him time to have some much-needed rest and relaxation.
The project that's almost over is obviously "Super Smash Bros.," which he previously announced would be receiving its final two fighters, namely the Umbra witch Bayonetta and Corrin from "Fire Emblem Fates."
Regarding his next job, nothing is known about it yet and Sakurai has not revealed any details about this next project. Although fans might be hoping it's another "Super Smash Bros." entry, that might not be the case. In 2014, Sakurai hinted in an interview that the current "Super Smash Bros." installment might be the last as he does not see himself working on another title in the series.
Whether or not Sakurai maintains this position or has changed his mind about working on another installment in the "Super Smash Bros." franchise, fans will have to wait for official announcements or comments from the game director in the future.
