'Supergirl' CBS TV Series Latest News: 'Supergirl'/'Flash' Crossover In The Works?
On Thanksgiving, Nov. 26, the website Bleeding Cool came out with a report saying that CBS plans on merging the "Supergirl" and "Flash" storylines should "Supergirl" make it to May's sweeps weeks. According to the report, Supergirl aka Kara Zor-El (played by Melissa Benoist) could meet The Flash aka Barry Allen (played by Grant Gustin) and the S.T.A.R. Labs Crew for nine more episodes to add to the 13 commissioned by CBS.
Bleeding Cool suggests that the move may be geared towards giving "Supergirl," which premiered on Oct. 26, a ratings boost. The show has been struggling to keep its viewership since the much-anticipated premiere brought in huge numbers. Since then, viewers seem to have been losing interest. "Supergirl" viewership has had a 29% week-to-week drop - the biggest drop of a new series this season.
The crossover rumor was fleshed out by another report, posted on Friday, that the meeting of Supergirl and Flash may be part of a larger story arc based on the New Krypton storyline from the "Supergirl" comics. In that story, 100,000 Kryptonians descend on Earth after they are freed from the Bottle City of Kandor by the supervillain Brainiac. It is similar to the current plotline in "Dark Knight III: The Master Race." How this story is portrayed on TV - on a TV budget - is anyone's guess, and may mean that viewers will get a very different translation of events from the one in the DC Comics.

The crossover trend is a big one this year, with the "Bones"/"Sleepy Hollow" "Dead Men Tell No Tales" crossover episode in October and the upcoming "Flash"/"Arrow" crossover episodes, the first half of which airs Dec. 1, with the second half following on Dec. 2.
It should be noted that a "Supergirl"/"Flash" crossover could be a reality, as CBS has ownership of half of the CW (with the other half owned by Warner Bros., who owns DC); however, until official word is released, these reports should be taken with a grain of salt.
