'Supergirl' Season 1B Spoilers: New Teaser Shows Toyman, Martian Manhunter, And Non; Costume Designer Reveals Difficulties Of Dressing Kara

A new promo video for the CBS sci-fi action-adventure series "Supergirl" has dropped, and it shows Kara Zor-el/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), along with Winslow Schott Sr./Toyman (Henry Czerny), Non (Chris Vance), and Hank Henshaw/J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter (David Harewood) in the Jan. 4 episode "Blood Bonds."

The teaser includes Supergirl facing off with Non mid-air, the two almost getting hit by an airplane, as well as the scene in which the superhero discovers the true identity of Martian Manhunter. There is also a toy Supergirl inside a chest, Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli) interrogating a man tied to a chair and hitting him with a wrench, and Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) saying, "Without a shadow of a doubt, you are Supergirl."

The official plot synopsis for the first 2016 "Supergirl" episode reads: "With Astra in captivity at the DEO, her husband, Non (Chris Vance), captures Hank, leading to a tense standoff between the two sides. Also, Kara continues to refute Cat's allegations that she is Supergirl."

Meanwhile, "Supergirl" costume designer Kiersten Ronning opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about how she sets Kara's outfits apart from her superhero costume, saying, "It's really hard to shop for Kara." Ronning is tasked with making sure that the two characters look completely different wardrobe-wise.

Thus, Kara Zor-el was given the iconic Clark Kent look: glasses and quirky outfits that help prevent anyone from suspecting her real identity.

The costume designer added: "We try to do a little Clark Kent-ish thing there. It's not stuff that's sold in stores. It's not what's in fashion right now, so that's what's hard — trying to make it cute and still appeal to everyone, but at the same time, it's a little bit quirky."

"Supergirl" Season 1 returns with Episode 9: "Blood Bonds" on Monday, Jan. 4, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
