'Superman' Solo Movie News: Standalone Movie for Man of Steel Still up in the Air
Despite the critics slamming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," director Zack Snyder and actor Henry Cavill are very vocal about their desire to let Superman soar again via a solo film.
In October 2014, Warner Bros. announced the lineup of the DC movies that they are making, and a solo "Superman" movie was mentioned as something that fans can look forward to before the end of this decade. However, as of this writing, the plan for a standalone film feature for the Man of Steel is still up in the air.
In an interview with IGN, Snyder said that he is just waiting for a good script. Once a "Superman" story falls in his good graces, he said it will be a fun thing for him to do.
On the other hand, Cavill said that the possibility for his Superman to fly high in the skies again is dependent on how well "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" fares at the box office. He added that, once the movie proves its box-office worth, negotiations for another "Superman" movie can begin.
"… But they've got their plans set out for other stuff and Justice Leagues and various other movies. It's about finding the time, really. It's something that I would be very keen to do," Cavill said in the same interview conducted by IGN.
While the pronouncement of producer Charles Roven does not sound definitive in terms of another standalone feature for the DC superhero, it sends a message of hope to the fans hoping to see Superman fly via a solo film feature.
"We're in the process of looking at that, but we don't have it on the schedule at the moment because we're quite busy with the movies that we have scheduled."
If the fate of a solo "Superman" movie hangs on box-office success of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," then, there is a good possibility for it to come into fruition. As of this writing, the movie has already crossed the $700 million mark for its worldwide gross, and it's nearing Warner Bros. and DC's initial target of $1 billion.
With this, just like the fate of the Man of Steel in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," a "Superman" movie may not be dead at all.
