SwiftKey for Text Prediction, Swype for Swipe Typing, CooolKey for Keyboard Themes in iOS 8

iOS 8 has a number of key features but one of the most useful would be its support for third-party keyboard applications. Since the need for physical keypads has been rendered unnecessary by the touchscreen era of mobile phones, keyboard applications have been a major need since some default keyboards by some phone manufacturers are not exactly reliable.

Now, with the iOS 8 update, keyboard apps from the Android platform can be downloaded and installed on an Apple iPhone and iPad. Such keyboards include Swiftkey, Swype, and Coolkey.

One of the best keyboards among the three is the Swiftkey app and is free to download on the App Store. The feature which makes the Swiftkey one of the best is its capacity to learn from the user's typing style and usage of terminology where the feature is integrated into its predictive text system.

Swiftkey is also very accurate, either while using the standard of swipe typing. Swipe typing is a kind of touchscreen typing where users can simply swipe through the keyboard to spell words instead of tapping on separate keys.

Swype is another keyboard app which users can consider but it focuses mainly on users who prefer swipe typing over normal typing. It also focuses heavily on predictive learning. Compared to the SwiftKey app, Swipe is the simpler app but some might find using the SwiftKey app faster to use. Unlike SwiftKey, however, Swype isn't free and but costs only $0.99 on the App Store.

The CooolKey keyboard is the least favored keyboard among the three due to various reviews from customers who have installed and used it. While the option to add a theme to the keyboard is a plus for those who want a more attractive keyboard, other aspects of the app doesn't shine as much as its theme feature.

Most say that the keyboard doesn't have autocorrect or spell check, or is not as predictive as the last two. Other issues also arise when users try to save their keyboard settings but end up seeing the default layout of the keyboard again.

Overall, the SwiftKey app might be more appealing to users who rely on the text prediction. Swype might be more appealing for users who want a simpler user interface or for those who rely more on swipe typing. CooolKey on the other hand does have decorative keyboard themes and is a fairly good typing keyboard if users can overlook the lack of an autocorrect and spell check.
