'Switched at Birth' Gets Renewed By ABC For Season 5
American teen and family drama television series "Switched at Birth" is getting renewed for its fifth season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC just announced on Wednesday an order for another season of the show which will return to the small screen in 2016.
The series is near to closing its fourth season with a finale episode titled "And Always Searching for Beauty." It will air this coming Monday, Oct. 26 and will be tackling certain issues including the birth of Toby and Lily's child, the marriage of Katherine and John, and some relationship dilemmas.
Fans are making their own speculations already with how things will turn out for the characters although not a lot is really known how things will end. But it's certain that it will not lack the drama it has always delivered especially in the lives of Bay Kennish and Daphne Vasquez.
As said in a statement by Karey Burke, executive vice president programming and development, "Every season 'Switched at Birth' continues to deliver fresh, relatable storylines that tackle important social issues, reflecting what our audience experiences daily.
She also shared that the network is excited to see where Lizzy Weiss will lead the characters of the show next. Weiss is executive producer of the Peabody Award-winning series and works alongside Paul Stupin ("Dawson's Creek") and Linda Gase ("Army Wives").
"Switched at Birth" debuted in 2011 and it follows the stories of two families whose paths crossed after they found out that a hospital glitch resulted to the accidental switching of the two main characters, Daphne and Bay. With the girls already in their teen years, the families try to figure out how to live together amidst the peculiar situation.
The show also touches the deaf culture as part of Daphne's story involves her becoming deaf after a case of meningitis when she was still an infant. Cinema Blend detailed that because of that, the show has really gained recognition and that includes the Peabody Award.
