Syfy's 'Tremors' Cast News, Release Date: Three More Stars Added to Cast

It has been months since Syfy announced its new series "Tremors," but details about it are still few and far between. Earlier this week, however, the network confirmed the names of those who have been cast in roles so far for the upcoming TV refresh, proving that despite the lack of updates in the past months, the series is still making progress.

Syfy recently added "Vinyl's" Emily Tremaine, "Jane the Virgin's" Megan Ketch and "Evil Dead's" Shiloh Fernandez to the "Tremors" cast. The three stars will act alongside Kevin Bacon, who is set to reprise his role as Val McKee.

According to reports, Tremaine will play Emily McKee, Val's daughter who has just graduated from college. Wishing to bond with her dad, she visits him at Perfection, Nevada, but finds out that he may be up to something fishy. On the other hand, Ketch will play a benevolent doctor named Mindy Sterngood, who has a crush on Val but keeps a dark secret. She reportedly started to have feelings for the older man after he saved her from a potential accident when she was still young. Lastly, Fernandez will portray Nico Garza, a man who is itching to get out of Perfection.

"Tremors" is currently in its pre-production phase and will reportedly stand as a follow-up to the first movie, thus ignoring all of the other sequels. The original film was released in 1990 and starred Bacon and Fred Ward as two handymen living in Perfection. Eventually, their neighborhood is attacked by horrible monsters known as Graboids.

Although the original film did not make it big at the global box office, it was able to gain a huge following, spawning the sequel "Tremors 2: Aftershocks" in 1996. More films under the franchise were released in the years that followed, the last being 2015's "Tremors 5: Bloodlines." In January next year, "Tremor 6" will head to DVD and Blu-Ray.

Syfy has yet to announce the premiere date for the "Tremors" TV series.
