Sylvester Stallone Death Hoax Debunked: Actor in Macau to Promote 'Expendables 3'
Sylvester Stallone is yet another Hollywood star victimized by viral celebrity death hoax that has been circulating lately. The viral death hoax was tailor-made for social media network sharing. It originated from a fake Facebook page and spread like wildfire.
"Actor Sylvester Stallone died in a single vehicle crash between Ipswich and Willowbank in Queensland as confirmed by Royal Queensland Police - August 25, 2014," the post read. "The accident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. (UTC/GMT +10). Sylvester Stallone is believed to have been in the area while on vacation. He was identified by photo ID found at the scene. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in this accident."
As revealed, the purpose of the scam is to trick people into sharing a website to spread surveys. These surveys are how the scammers make money.
"Clicking the shared dialog box … will only ask you to like, share the same page or complete surveys in order to watch the video," according to security blog Online Threat Alerts. "But, it is the fake Facebook web page that the scammers want you to 'like' or share, which will make it popular."
"Once the page is popular, these scammers can sell it to online marketers or other scammers. They will also make money from the surveys that are completed by gullible Facebook users who were tricked into completing them," the blog site added.
Some supporters, who went to believe the false report, even expressed their message of condolences and grief on Twitter.
"I just heard about Sylvester Stallone! Another favorite actor if mine, RIP," one person wrote.
"RIP Sylvester Stallone died in car accident," another said.
Apparently, the 68-year-old "Rocky" superstar is in perfect health and was seen in Macau promoting the third installment of the action film series "The Expendables." He was joined by his co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger.
When asked by local media, the "Rambo" actor expressed hopes in filming the next sequel to the mercenary movie in Asia.
