T-Mobile, Sprint Merger Update: Carriers to Officially Become One by the End of the Month?
The long-gestating merger between Sprint and T-Mobile, which was first rumored back in 2015, is reportedly set to be finalized really soon.
According to Bloomberg News, two of the biggest telecommunication companies in the United States could become one before the end of October with the deal to be announced when the carriers report on their quarterly earnings.
Sprint and T-Mobile are determined to make it happen and the only hurdle that they need to jump on for the big merger to come to pass is getting it approved by market regulators.
There are also some kinks that need to be ironed out including Sprint's valuation, which was at $30 billion when its shares closed last week.
Sprint and T-Mobile are also talking about where the location of the headquarters will be as well as the appointments to the executive management team.
According to Android Authority, there is no breakup fee involved in this merger, which means neither of the carriers will have to pay financial penalties if the deal falls through, which is already unlikely at this point.
It is a mystery at the moment how the merger will affect T-Mobile's Un-carrier programs for its current customers, but one thing that is sure, per media outlets, is that the decrease of U.S. major carriers from four to three will introduce a massive hurdle to any new carrier trying to penetrate the market.
T-Mobile and Sprint being one, however, will undoubtedly give them better chances to one-up their biggest competition — AT&T and Verizon.
Talks about the Sprint and T-Mobile merger began two years ago. Updates about the progress and possibility popped up intermittently after that with nothing being finalized.
It was back in May that the rumor mills started churning new details again about the mega merger and it looks like this time, it is happening with Sprint and T-Mobile finally able to take care of everything for the smooth transition to finally begin.
