T-Mobile Supports iPhone Use on its Network

T-Mobile's quest to gain acceptance by Apple still has not ended, although the iPhone 4S did not make its way onto the carrier for its release.

Many T-Mobile customers were disappointed in the fall when Apple decided to release the iPhone on Sprint and other small carriers, but excluded their company. Purchasing an unlocked version and using it on the network was still an option, though.

It could be perceived that unlocked phones would be shunned by any carrier, but T-Mobile is planning to offer support to customers using the iPhone on its network.

"T-Mobile will begin offering more than 1 million unlocked iPhone customers additional support starting Jan. 30," wrote 9to5Mac citing a report from TMO News who claims that they obtained internal documents including this information.

The carrier is also planning on updating the iPhone website in its Community so it will fit in with the rest of the T-Mobile supported device pages and "Integrated Scope of Support" for reps.

Rumors began to spread in the summer of 2011 that the next-gen iPhone, thought at that time to be the iPhone 5, was coming to the T-Mobile upon its release.

During that time it was also rumored to be coming to Sprint as well. This was big news since the older iPhones were only available on AT&T until Verizon received the iPhone 4 in the beginning of 2011.

At the "Let's Talk iPhone" event held by Apple where the iPhone was to be unveiled, the company announced some exciting news, stating that the smartphone would now be available on Sprint.

At the time, T-Mobile was expected to merge with AT&T, but that deal fell through, leaving the carrier out of the iPhone market. The company released statements saying that it was just one phone call away from getting the iPhone.

That day never came.
