Before that win, they suffered a tough loss to the Los Angeles Kings in a match where they led 3-2 in the closing seconds of the match before surrendering a goal with 45 seconds left in the third period. It eventually led to a 4-3 penalty shootout loss for Montreal.

For Tampa Bay, they have pulled off three straight wins. They beat the Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs and Dallas Stars to close the gap between them and Montreal on points.

In the 5-4 win against the Stars, Tampa Bay were down 3-2 heading into the third period but turned things around with three straight goals inside 15 minutes care of Alex Killorn, Victor Hedman and Brian Boyle.

Their streak has come at the perfect time as the Lightning are looking to go to the top of the rankings.

Already meeting twice this season, the Lightning have dominated the Canadiens so far – beating them heavily on both occasions. The first was a 7-1 win where Steven Stamkos scored a hat-trick while the team scored at least twice each period. In their next meeting, Tampa Bay showed impressive resolve despite being down 1-0 in the first period. They went on to score four goals in under 16 minutes to bring the match to their favour, with it eventually ending 4-2.

Revenge will definitely be on the minds of Montreal as they play again as hosts.
