Gotcha! Team Couldn't Care Less When Rookie Hits His First Home Run
Some people are simply hard to please. When Tampa Bay Rays' Richie Shaffer hits his first career home run, his family is ecstatic.
While No. 36 is proud of his accomplishment, and rightly so, his teammates don't appear to be nearly as impressed. In fact, they don't even acknowledge his existence.
Perchance it's because the Rays are already ahead 9 to 1 when Shaffer hits the ball out of the park. Perchance it's because the bases aren't loaded. Perchance it's because Shaffer is booed since it's an away game.
Either way, after making his unchallenged run of the bases, Shaffer descends into the dugout where his teammates — at first — do absolutely nothing to congratulate him.
Rather, they huddle together, ignoring the rookie third baseman, as he joyously does high-fives and gives hugs to some invisible cohorts.
Eventually, however, not even his fellow professional players can keep up the prank and finally offer the congrats the rookie has earned.
Nevertheless, there is something classic about how happy the dugout air was for Richie's first home run.
