Taylor Smith Letter to Future Self Includes Instructions to Pray, Worship, Serve God 'Now!' (VIDEO)
Taylor Smith, 12, died from pneumonia last week in Tennessee, but her legacy lives on in a letter she wrote to her future self. Her family made the discovery as they cleaned her room and decided to share her words with the world.
"Dear Taylor, How's life? Life is pretty simple right now (10 years in your past). I know I'm late for you, but as I'm writing, this is early, so: congratulations on graduating high school! If you didn't, go back and keep trying. Get that degree! Have you prayed, worshiped, read the Bible or gone to serve the Lord recently? If not, get up and do so NOW! I don't care what point in our life we're in right now, do it!" the pre-teen wrote.
The letter stunned her family and reminded them of the young girl they had raised for 12 years.
"She liked doing quirky things and she liked doing meaningful things, she always created stuff," Tim Smith, Taylor's dad, told Buzzfeed. "The fact that she wrote this letter wasn't a surprise, but what she wrote was."
"Her dad said what made her so special was she had the wisdom of an adult but the faith of a child," Taylor's aunt, Kathy Oakes, told the Johnson City Press. "She was very involved in First Priority at Liberty Bell. It's a faith-based organization after school which helps students with their faith, living out loud. She loved God with all of her heart; she was just a very spiritual person. She had a deep, deep desire to go around the world with missions. Her heart was to go on mission trips."
Taylor's letter has since gone viral, inspiring others to live life to the fullest and do as much good as they can, while they can. As one final piece of advice, Taylor offered these words:
"Remember, it's been 10 years since I wrote this. Stuff has happened good and bad, that's just how life works and you have to go with it."
