Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus Reveal Two Different Views on Being A Role Model

Pop-country singer, Taylor Swift, recently held an interview with “60 Minutes,” where the 21-year-old was asked about her squeaky clean image and composure.

Swift stands out among her music star peers for being one of the most positive figures in pop culture; acting as a good example to young fans. She has been somewhat fortunate for the consistent positive reviews received by the media, whereas many of her celebrity peers are condemned and criticized for everything they do.

Miley Cyrus, 18, has openly discussed her frustration with being criticized for her personal and private actions. She once told “Harpar’s Bazaar” in an interview that she is “not a role model” and does not feel she deserves attacks on her scanty choice of clothing.

“My job isn’t to tell your kids how to act or how not to act because I’m still figuring that out for myself,” Cyrus told the magazine. “To take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That’s just life.”

The “Hannah Montana” star has a valid point. She is a young girl and cannot be expected to be the perfect example to millions of kids who watch her every move through the media. However, Taylor Swift, although also not perfect, has spoken candidly about her willingness to try.

Swift first came onto the music scene in 2006 with her self-titled album and hit single, “Tim McGraw.” The album went multi-platinum and lead to her next album, released in 2008 and a third in 2010. Swift has broken numerous records as a female country singer. She has won 4 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year in 2010. And was ranked number 7 in “Forbes” list of the Most Powerful Celebrities of 2011.

Needless to say, Taylor Swift is a household name among teens all around the world and she doesn’t take that responsibility lightly. She neither smokes nor enjoys drinking. She is careful of her behavior and what she wears.

“I definitely think about a million people when I’m getting dressed in the morning and that’s just part of my life now,” Swift says. “I think it’s my responsibility to know it and to be conscious of it. It would be really easy to say I’m 21 now, I do what I want. You raise your kids! But it’s not the truth of it. The truth of it is- every singer out there with songs on the radio is raising the next generation.”

Teen celebrities have a different perspective on what their responsibility is in the limelight. Fans are happy to know that Taylor Swift is thinking about them too. “TAYLOR SWIFT, I love you. ♥” a fan declared via Twitter.
