'Teen Mom' Catelynn Lowell, Tyler Baltierra Become 'Parents' to Teen Sister

"Teen Mom" stars Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra are now the legal guardians of Baltierra's younger sister. The young couple previously said that they would take in any of their siblings if necessary and have now followed through with that pledge, though circumstances surrounding the situation are not known.

"Raising a teen is not easy! But I love my lil sister & will stop at NOTHING to make sure she is well prepared for her future #FamilySupport," Baltierra tweeted earlier this month.

"2 days after taking the responsibility of taking guardianship of my lil sister, she got a job! Me & @CatelynnLowell are beyond proud of her," Baltierra tweeted in the form of an announcement.

Baltierra and Lowell chose adoption for their own daughter Carly and dealt with the consequences of their decision, which greatly disappointed and upset both of their families. Yet the two remained committed to their decision and placed Carly in a stable home with loving parents; they still see their biological daughter and have a good relationship with her adoptive parents.

The reality stars have had difficult home lives: Baltierra's dad, who happens to be Catelynn's stepfather, has been in and out of jail for drug and alcohol abuse. After a violent altercation, Baltierra's father was ordered to stay away from Lowell's mother, but violated his parole and went back to jail. Lowell's mother also battled alcohol and drugs but before the series ended announced that she had been clean and sober for some time.

It's unclear what led Baltierra and Lowell to take action to obtain custody of their sibling, but the pair has previously said that they would do whatever was necessary to protect their loved ones.

"If I ever felt like he (my brother) was in trouble or going to be harmed by anything, I would totally step in," Lowell said during an appearance on MTV in 2012. "I would take him. I'd get custody of him for sure."

The couple recently appeared on VH1's "Couples Therapy," where they worked through relationship issues and gained new understanding about themselves. Although they called off the wedding during filming, the couple still plans to wed, perhaps sooner rather than later.
