'Tekken 7' Director Reiterates Reason Cross-Platform Support is Unlikely
Many "Tekken 7" players continue to ask director Katsuhiro Harada about cross-platform support for the fighting game, forcing him to make one thing clear about it.
On Twitter, he pointed out that it is entirely up to the console manufacturers to decide whether or not they want cross-platform play. From what it looks like, Microsoft and Sony are not up for it.
Harada, who has to deal with these questions almost every time he is in social media, noted that such sought-after "Tekken 7" feature is "not my heart [and] our issue."
He said that the lack of cross-platform support is simply due to the "first party issue [and] platform security policy issue."
As Harada explained, the security policy implemented by the console giants cannot be used among three platforms including the PC. "Don't ask me. ASK first party," he emphasized.
This means that fans will have to convince the two big gaming studios should they want to have cross-platform play possible in "Tekken 7."
His explanation also suggests that it is extremely unlikely for "Tekken 7" to support cross-play between the PC and the Xbox One or the PlayStation 4.
Bandai Namco Entertainment believes that this could split the player base and will give either platform an unfair advantage over the other, which is why it is not keen on doing so.
The last time Harada spoke about "Tekken 7" cross-platform play was last year, in which he implied that the potential security risks of the PC are a deal-breaker.
"Technically it has been verified, since there is also much opposition due to hard policies and security problems and community distrust of PC cheat," he explained.
October last year, "Tekken" designer Michael Murray advised players to ask the console manufacturers about cross-platform possibilities.
While cross-platform play is not on the horizon, Bandai Namco continues to expand "Tekken 7" by adding a new character — Eddy Gordo — to the roster.
